A PIECE OF MY MIND

First of all let me say I was born at a very young age, in the village of Bentley nr Doncaster, like most of the children born just after the war I am as old as my tongue and a little bit older than my teeth. Also like most of the post war babies we are of THAT age.

Now that I have retired from full time employment as a Racing Driver of Mobility Scooters and night repairer of church roofs
I have some time on my hands to do the things I have always wanted to do  which is whatever I want to do and whenever I want to do it ! All lawns should be astroturf the same length and beautifully green all year round with No maintenance.
I have found the true meaning of the phrase "Work fascinates me" I could stand and watch it all day, providing, it does not interfere with the Jerry Springer show & Jeremy Kyle, & Trisha.

I have found time to pursue my hobby's which are -  Rat Juggling -  Ladies Mud Wrestling - Wellie Throwing and Origami ( in which I have a Black Belt ) I also enjoy playing my guitar, I enjoy the music of the 60s " Is there any other kind" I can not abide the so called music in the charts of present day, mind you I think all parents have said this of the music their kids listen to I know mine did to me, Elvis Presley was a hip swivelling bad influence
and Cliff Richard was too risque, speaking of which Cliff and The Shadows were my personal favourites and their music is the music that still lives with me to-day.

Myself and some friends got together and Raided a music shop on the "Faroe Islands", armed with all this wonderful equipment we formed a Shadows Tribute Band take a look at the link and see what we play and hear what we sound like. http://www.theapaches.org Well I hope you liked it ??

My wife Ruth is my biggest supporter, critic, advisor, and shoulder to lean on when the going gets tough
I hope above everything else I can do the same for her - for without her I would be nothing. I can always ask her for her opinion as she lives very close to where I live ! and so do my two kids Ben and Charlotte I always call her Charlie. You can not beat family life at breakfast time, when the kids are getting ready for school  shouting at one another - "Dad She say's" - "Mum He say's" -  but Dad - Where are my sock's - Where's my breakfast ? -- but would we have it any other way ?  -- Not Me --  It makes this insane world we live in more plausible, Ruth my wonderful wife is there for us all as mediator " In the blue corner is Dad -  "In the red corner Ben & Charlie" the bell rings and the day start's. ---- Great Stuff.

I have two great kids that I wouldn't change for the world. (Well after careful consideration

THE WAY I WOULD HAVE IT

There are some things I would change, it would be nice for Old folks to be able to walk down the Street in safety, to have back the community spirit that was paramount in the 1950s and 60s When people could leave their doors unlocked just recently we had floods in and around the Doncaster area well in fact they were Nation wide, but I can only speak about the area that affected me personally which was Doncaster ! people who used to pass by and not speak were stopping to talk, some very worried about the floods and what would happen if and when the water got into their houses, we all had a common want ! "Sand Bags"

When we got them we shared them, there were the odd ones who were selfish in the capture and retention of
"My sand bags", but I am pleased to say they were in the minority, and don't worry we shall remember who they were. Now the flood waters have subsided people no longer pass by without speaking everyone says hello, and I think that is the way it should be. These people are no longer Strangers they have become friends -----  It would be wonderful to rid the country of the Knife and Gun culture we have somehow aquired, in this country ! when I was a kid I could go to school with a pen knife in my pocket to peel the apple my mum had given me for a snack - Today you would have to get it through the Rapiscan X-ray machine or the Security guard before you got it into school, these are sad fact's of how things are in our society.

I remember a time when you could pass a comment or have an opinion -
But in this "Politically Correct World" You are no longer allowed to voice your opinion for fear of upsetting some religious beleif or someone who will purposely misinterpret what you have said to support their cause.

 "The "Do Gooders"
of this world who enlist help for mass murderer's and rapists, and child molesters The Do Gooders are the cancer of this world  - I will give these people no more space on My Space, as the more you discuss them it gives them more credibility. These are the people that know best if your opinion differs from theirs then you are wrong.....................All Do Gooders deserve a Holiday I would gladly give them a one way ticket to Mars - Pluto - Venus, anywhere "Off" this planet that they are socially destroying.
We as a Nation are losing our identity, - Somehow we must get back on track Great Britain used to be GREAT !

Bring Back National Service (Conscription) at the age of 16.
Bring back Capital punishment for taking a life (provinding it is proved beyond any doubt
BUT MOST OF ALL DISCIPLINE  must be restored  -  In the home - in schools - in society - in ourselves - we as a nation are sadly lacking in discipline. When I was a youngster We respected - The Police - School Teachers - Older People - Our Parents - not necessarily in that order but we had respect we had standards. and we had a pride in ourselves -- This in my belief is down to discipline.

Telephone box's had directories in them (at least 2 ) a black box with an A button & B button these were kept clean by the people on the street where they were situated always in working order. Vandalising a phone box wasn't even considered (It might be - YOU - that needed it in an emergency)

My Generation (was not only a song by The Who) but people who were born before Television, before frozen foods, contact lenses, and the pill. we were born before Credit Cards, Split Atoms, Laser Beams and Ball point pens - before Dish Washers -  Tumble Dryers -  Electric Blankets -  Air Conditioners and Tights.  We used to play with marbles -  Cigarette Cards and Hula Hoops (now making a come back) the best way to earn pocket money was a paper round, because your mum & dad could not afford to give you any. -- Saturday afternoons were spent at the pictures with Hoppalong Cassidy - Kit Carson - Roy Rogers and Flash Gordon, all for "one shilling" We thought that Fast Food was something you ate quickly
a "Big Mac" was an oversize raincoat and Crumpet was a "pikelet" that you toasted - we exsisted before House Husbands - Computer Dating - Dual Careers, We had never heard of FM radio -CDs - Word Processors - Yoghurt - Pizzas - Mobile Phones - or Men wearing Earings. For us a "Chip" was a piece of wood or a fried potato you could buy a bag of sugar for 3d (£-s-d) "Hardwear" meant nut's and bolt's and softwear wasn't a word. The term "Making Out" referred to how you did in your exams and a "Stud" was what you fastened your collar with. "Going All the Way" meant staying on the bus to the depot....
In our day cigarette smoking was fashionable (but stupid) "Grass" was mown "Coke" was kept in the coal shed and a "Joint" was the piece of meat you ate on Sundays...............

This was my Generation, --  am I so out of touch ?  because I want the standards that came with this "Era" No I don't want to turn back the clock, and you try and take my mobile phone off me ( if you dare ) If I knew the answer to the social problem we have today "I would be President of The World."
but we could try a little Discipline, it has worked in the past.

I HAVE LEARNED

I've learned that "Life" sometimes gives you a second chance.

I've learned that making a " Living " is not the same as making a " Life "

I've learned that regardless of your relationship with your parents, you will miss them when they are gone from your life.

I've learned that you can tell a lot about a person by the way he/she handels four things - A rainy day - the elderly

Lost luggage - and tangled Christmas tree lights.

Iv'e learned people of my age usually don't have regrets for what we did, but rather for things we did not do  everyone grows old it doesn't take any talent or ability, the idea is to grow up finding opportunity in change and have NO REGRETS.

Iv'e learned that there are "Four secrets to life" Being Happy - Achieve whatever you can -
Laugh and find humor every day - You've got to have a Dream. when you loose your dreams you die - There are so many people who are walking around who are dead and don't even know it.

Iv'e learned that Growing Old is mandatory, growing up is optional.

But mostly I've learned that I still have a lot to learn.

GOD PROMISES A SAFE LANDING, NOT A CALM  PASSAGE. IF GOD BRINGS YOU TO IT, HE WILL BRING YOU THROUGH IT.

SUMMER 2007

Last day of July, and the weather has turned beautiful, so time to take the kids to the seaside.
The nearest coastal resort to where we live is Bridlington on the East Yorkshire coast. We went as a Family Ruth myself and Ben, and Charlie. I took along my camera, and it was a good job I did ---  YOU WILL NOT BELIEVE what I saw and managed to photograph. Ruth my wife was born in Edinburgh (Scotland) and many times when visiting Ruth's parents I have tried to photograph the "Wild Hairy Haggis" but they are very fast and very shy and run up the kilts of highlanders for safety concealing themselves in the sporran ! and if you dare stick a camera in there to take a photograph of one of these things !! Then you are a Braver man than I.

But on our visit to the East Coast, I got a photograph of a "TUIT" you can see the photgraph in the album below. "Tuit's" come in all shapes and sizes, but this one was the Very Rare ROUND one.
Yorkshire legend has it that, to possess one of these "Tuit's" you will be able to finish any task you started
I know this is true because I have told Ruth

" I will Finish the decorating in the Dinning Room when I get a round Tuit".

You will also see in the photo's another rare shot of a Rastafarian Sand Castle, it had just finished singing
"I'm Going to "rock" down to Electric Avenue. All in all we had a very eventful and enjoyable day.

I have recently written a Country song, and hope to record it shortly its in A minor, and its called
" I still miss you Baby but my aim's getting better" the B side is "I wouldn't take you to a dog fight even if I thought you could win"
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One more thing that I have noticed and I must admit ! That women are better than men at is "Multi Tasking"
I saw a young woman driving to work in her car " Putting on her make up in the rear view mirror - Texting on her mobile phone - indicating she was turning left - and turned right"  PHEW  - No mortal man could do that "Live and Learn Guy's"
